There are a lot of ways that innovations can make a city more sustainable and livable. Developing more advanced technology or even just being more efficient with our belongings can really help make the Earth a better place for EVERYONE to live. One example of an innovation is solar-panel windows. There windows would generated power to be used by the city, reducing the cost of the energy and the amount of carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere. The generated power could also be used for public transportation, making it much cheaper to use and expand them. Another innovation are smart sensors. These can make traffic patterns more efficient since they can detect when a car is coming or not. They can also monitor the health of our homes. As one can see, these innovations would be a great addition to help make our planet greener and more sustainable.
This article was definitely an eye-opener. I had no idea that there were so many possibilities to improve our efficiency. First of all, we should work on providing everyone with shelter, food, and clean water. If we do that, then we have all the basic necessities to live. However, I think the simplest and most effective innovation is to teach sustainability. By teaching people to carpool or recycle, we can make a really big difference. Driving less, using fluorescent light-bulbs, and setting your house temperature two degrees higher in the summer and two lower in the winter can also help. Education is also a VERY big part in this. Teaching children about sustainability and how to be more eco-friendly is important. Children are the key to our future, and the best way we can preserve the Earth for generations to come is to teach them how to be more efficient with their everyday lives.

- Innovations can help make a city more livable; some examples are:
- Solar-panel windows: power generated can be used for the city, reducing energy cost and carbon dioxide emissions
- More toilets: provide people in developing countries a clean place to urinate
- Better water-distributing systems: good water distribution and sewage removal systems can make a city more livable
- Homeless shelters: provides the homeless with a place to live in safety and comfort
- Smart sensors: can make traffic patterns more efficient, reduce output of emissions, and monitor health of homes
- Sustainability lessons: using fewer cars, separating recycled garbage, living close to work, and teaching children about sustainability
- Cities built near resources: tall buildings keeps ground in its natural state and simplifies transportation while providing easy access to the natural world
